Banned Product List
Make Local for Global does not support the sale, promotion, listing or distribution of products, services or materials that are unlawful, unsafe, restricted, misleading, harmful, counterfeit or otherwise unsuitable for ecommerce.
This page explains the types of products and services that are not permitted on websites, online stores or ecommerce services created, hosted, supported or supplied by Make Local for Global.
This list is not exhaustive. We may refuse, remove, suspend or cancel any product, service, content or website activity that we reasonably believe creates a legal, regulatory, safety, payment, platform, ethical or reputational risk.
1. Illegal, restricted or unlawful items
- Any product, material or service prohibited by law at any time.
- Any product, material or service that cannot legally be advertised, sold, supplied, displayed or made available through an ecommerce platform unless all legal conditions are fully met.
- Any item that may assist, encourage or support illegal or unlawful activity.
- Any sanctioned, restricted or prohibited item under applicable law, regulation, payment provider rules, hosting provider rules or platform rules.
- Any item, product, content or service deemed unsuitable for listing by Make Local for Global.
2. Adult, obscene or exploitative content
- Adult products, pornography, obscene materials or sexually explicit content in any form.
- Print, audio, video, MMS, images, photographs, digital downloads or other adult content.
- Child sexual abuse material, child pornography, exploitative content or any content involving minors in a sexual context.
- Sex determination kits or related products where restricted or prohibited by law.
3. Alcohol, drugs and controlled substances
- Alcohol and alcoholic products.
- Narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and controlled substances.
- Prescription medicines, prescription drugs and restricted medical products.
- Veterinary drugs for animals.
- Products that claim to treat, cure, prevent or diagnose medical conditions where such sale or claim is restricted or unlawful.
4. Weapons, ammunition and dangerous items
- Firearms, firearm parts, ammunition and firearm accessories.
- Weapons, knives, sharp-edged weapons, deadly weapons or parts of such weapons.
- Machinery, tools or equipment for manufacturing arms or weapons.
- Explosives, fireworks and similar dangerous items.
- Items designed or marketed for harm, violence, intimidation or unlawful use.
Ordinary domestic, agricultural or toy items may still be refused where we reasonably believe they could be misused or create legal, payment provider, hosting provider or platform risk.
5. Hazardous, toxic or regulated materials
- Acids, poisons, hazardous chemicals and radioactive materials.
- Explosives, fireworks, flammable substances and flammable adhesives.
- Oil-based paints, thinners, industrial solvents and similar flammable liquids.
- Insecticides, pesticides and other restricted chemical products.
- Machinery or equipment containing fuel.
- Fuel for camp stoves, lanterns, heating elements or similar products.
- Infectious substances or biological hazards.
- Liquefied Petroleum Gas cylinders or related restricted fuel containers.
6. Animals, wildlife and protected species
- Live or dead animals, including animal parts and animal products.
- Endangered species of animals or plants, whether alive or dead.
- Wildlife products and animal-derived products restricted by law.
- Reptile skins, ivory, protected shells, bones, horns, feathers or similar animal parts.
- Products linked to illegal poaching, wildlife trafficking or protected species trading.
7. Counterfeit, stolen or infringing goods
- Counterfeit goods, fake branded products or imitation goods presented as genuine.
- Goods or materials that infringe copyright, trade marks, patents, design rights or other intellectual property rights.
- Unauthorised copies of software, films, music, books, digital files, brand materials or other protected works.
- Stolen property, unlawfully obtained goods or goods with unclear ownership.
- Grey market products where the sale creates legal, supplier, warranty, platform or consumer protection risk.
8. Financial, monetary and government-related items
- Currency, coins, cash equivalents, negotiable instruments and similar monetary instruments.
- Stocks, securities, bonds, investment products or financial instruments.
- Financial services, lending, credit, investment advice or regulated financial activities.
- Invoices, including blank, pre-filled or value-added invoices or receipts.
- Passports, identity documents, government-issued personal documents or official records.
- Government-related items or equipment, including police or military uniforms, official badges, radios using restricted frequencies or similar restricted items.
9. Offensive, harmful or discriminatory materials
- Racially, ethnically or religiously offensive materials.
- Products, content or services that promote hatred, harassment, abuse, violence or unlawful discrimination.
- Materials that exploit, demean or target people based on protected characteristics.
- Content or products that may create public safety, safeguarding or reputational risk.
10. Human remains and sensitive materials
- Human remains, skeletons, body parts or related items.
- Items connected with human tissue, organs or remains.
- Products or materials that are unsafe, unethical or unlawful to sell online.
11. Maps, documents and restricted publications
- Maps, literature or publications that show national boundaries incorrectly where this is restricted by law.
- Restricted government documents, official records or controlled materials.
- Documents, templates or materials intended to mislead, defraud or impersonate another person, business or authority.
12. Other unsuitable items
- Products or services that breach payment provider, hosting provider, ecommerce platform or third-party service rules.
- Products or services that create unreasonable legal, safety, operational, ethical or reputational risk.
- Products or services that require licences, checks, age verification, permits or approvals that have not been provided or confirmed.
- Any other item we reasonably consider unfit for listing, promotion, sale or support through Make Local for Global.
Customer responsibility
You are responsible for making sure that your products, services, claims, pricing, images, policies and business activities comply with all laws, regulations, consumer rules, tax rules, advertising rules, product safety rules, age restrictions and platform requirements that apply to your business.
Make Local for Global does not provide legal, tax, regulatory or financial advice. If you are unsure whether a product or service can legally be sold online, you should seek independent advice before listing it.
What happens if a banned item is listed?
If we reasonably believe that a banned, restricted or unsuitable item has been listed, promoted or supplied through a website or service connected with Make Local for Global, we may take action. This may include asking you to remove the item, restricting access, suspending the service, cancelling the service, removing content or refusing further work.
Where required, we may also report unlawful activity, suspected fraud, safety risks or serious policy breaches to the relevant provider, authority or regulator.
